Celebration of National Women’s History Month: Dr. Dawn Tyus

Dear Hearts,

March 1st marked the beginning of Women’s History Month which highlights the contribution of women to history, culture, and society observed annually in the United States since 1987. There are so many women who have paved the way in so many different arenas in the world today and many of them have impacted my life.

“Leaders, pioneers, homemakers, trailblazers – women were essential to the founding of this nation and are essential on the path forward into its future.”

Today, I want to share with you a woman who has been very influential in my life since I was a high-school student. I was introduced to this phenomenal woman by my aunt. She assisted me with an assignment that I was having problems completing in one of my AP classes. Over the years, I still kept my communication with her and she invited me to one of her workshops she was hosting for women in December 2016. I will never forget this day, it changed my life and I am grateful for my attendance at this event on that Sunday evening. I was very tired that day and was not going to attend but I am so…. glad I did because I gained an accountability partner forever! This day changed my life and made me begin my journey of healing. I began to look back on not only my tragedies in life but the triumphs I have endured over the years. I was able to dream again and celebrate my small wins which helped me birth “From Scars to Stars”. I am truly grateful to Dr. Dawn Tyus for being instrumental in my life and honored to celebrate her this month.
